Free Tools to Launching a Career in Audio Given at Bristol

Audio enthusiasts and aspiring engineers flocked to Bristol Studios’ free Intro to Audio Workshop on Tuesday, July 10th. Fifteen future sound superstars learned all about microphones, acoustics, EQ and compression. The seminar was presented by Bristol Studios’ Senior Producer, Chris Billias (clients include: Jada, Yo Yo Ma, Meatloaf, New Kids on the Block, Prince Caspian/Chronicles of Narnia, HBO, Steve Corwin, David “Big Papi” Ortiz and many others) and was a great success.

Billias began the workshop by giving the attendees a tour of state-of-the-art Studio C. After pointing out and discussing a variety of microphones available, Billias brought everyone into the control room where they could see the entire process on a projector screen. The seminar featured Bristol Entertainment artist Jessie Chris (FB) who lent her vocals for the seminar. Jessie and Billias demonstrated the sound of the different microphones and how to work with each. The group discussed all of the steps necessary to make this recording session a successful one, covering topics such as the Equalization levels and reverb as well.

For many, this seminar could be the spark that sets a career in motion. Billias was extremely helpful when answering all questions and those in attendance left feeling inspired and informed. “Having taken some music technology courses at school as well . Previously worked in a recording studio, I thought I knew all there was to know about recording and production. I was happy to discover how dead-wrong I was! The courses here at Bristol have opened an entire world of music production unlike anything I have seen before. There is really no substitute for wokring on professional equipment with top of the line software – Being taught by the pros actively working in the field, you get all the tips and tricks you might expect, but its the invaluable real-world experience that separates these courses for the ones I’ve taken previously. Thanks again!”

“Overall the engineering courses were very helpful, and informative. I would recommend them to anyone looking to step their game up. The course has provided me with more of a creatie outlook, and I am looking forward to practicing what I have learned.”

“I thought the class size left a lot of room for questions which was great. The class was exactly to the point which was excellent. It wasn’t long and drawn out like other classes I have taken which made it easy for me to stay focused and take in more information. All in all, a very educational and direct course.”
